This tour takes hikers along an ancient road that was the setting for the "Oku no Hosomichi - The Narrow Road to the Deep North", a road walked by Matsuo Basho. The old road is one of the pass roads leading to Dewa, Yamagata in today, and is designated as a national historic site. This is a less undulating trail of approx. 4 km from the old Nakayama-shuku to Sakaida, where Basho made his first stop, and can be enjoyed by beginners.
